School Resource Officer Course

Pursuant to PA 100-984, the Board must develop a course of training for School Resource Officers. "School Resource Officer" means a law enforcement officer who has been primarily assigned to a school or school district under an agreement with a local law enforcement agency, as defined in Section 10-20.68 of the School Code.

The content of the Course shall be determined by the Board and shall include, but not be limited to, the following topics:

  1. An role and duties of Illinois Juvenile Officers;
  2. An overview of the school environment and youth communication techniques;
  3. An introduction to rapid response techniques including tactics and scenario trainings.

The Course will include at least 40 hours of content and those hours will be offered on consecutive business days. The Course will be taught by instructors approved by the Board. The timing and location of Course offerings shall be determined at the discretion of the Board, but the Course will be offered within the state of Illinois in a manner that provides reasonable access to officers in terms of time of year.
